Sim Rules

 Overall Sim Rules

Age play:  Any and all age play is strictly prohibited in local, voice chat or ims on the sim.  Anyone found to be engaging in this will be immediately banned and reported to LL.  If your character appears questionable, the administration will allow you one opportunity to change it.  ALL CHARACTERS on sim are required to be a minimum 18 years of age.

Alts/Gender:  Simply stated, no one's business but each individual player.

Text-based role play:  We are a text-based roleplay sim and expect characters engaging on sim to understand that.  We do not offer metered combat nor are we a sex sim.  We ask players to keep this in mind when entering Beyond Elpis

Observers:  Please wear an OOC tag of your choosing and keep your chat out of local.

Photography:  All are welcome to take pictures of their time in Beyond Elpis.  We have a Flickr group (https://www.flickr.com/groups/elpis/) and encourage sharing.  However, we ask that you are respectful of other players and do not take pictures of characters in compromising positions without previously asking.

Group chat:  Group chat is meant to be a place where members can engage in casual OOC-Violation of the above rules will result in a warning, temporary ejection from the groups, or sim bans, depending on the rule and severity.
-No verbal attacks toward another RPer, member of the sim or visitor.
-No discussion about ongoing role play scenes without the consent of all parties involved and only if there is no risk of metagaming.
-No political or religious discussions.
-No criticism of the sim or admins (properly lodge constructive feedback directly to admins).

Role Play Etiquette

Take turns:  In a paragraph roleplay sim, a post takes time to create. Take turns and post in order. Do not willfully ignore other players, including slave-players.   Generally, there is some leeway for this in large scenes or in places such as faction bases, clubs, and bars, etc.

OOC Equality:  Regardless of a chosen role, all players on sim are to be treated equally out of character.  This rule extends from each admin directly down to each individual player.

Joining a scene:  Public role play can and will be interrupted by others.  Courtesy is important.  We suggest taking time for a round of posting prior to emoting your entrance so that you are aware of the scene you are entering.

Play Fair:  As most players on sim have prior experience in roleplay, we expect that as adults, we all know how to play fair and be considerate of other players.  If you are found to be harassing another player or role play bullying or negatively impacting the quality of others on sim you can expect a discussion with the administration.

Metagaming:  The basics of metagaming, using OOC information to dictate your characters play style, reactions or actions towards other players has no place in Beyond Elpis.

Power gaming:  Power gaming or power playing is simply an aim to control another players action and/or reactions or general state of health, wellbeing, etc without their permission.  Take turns, allow the other player to react to your character's attempts.

God Moding:  While your character may have some special abilities, it is in poor taste to have them be written as if they are undefeatable.  Every type of player will have strengths and weaknesses.  Please do not write your character to be unattackable or exceeding logical skills for a situation without a significant story to support it, nor have a host of 'limits' that would preclude you from roleplaying any logical consequence for the types of actions you choose for your character to play.

OOC/Idling:  Please be respectful of players in scenes and keep ooc comments in local to an absolute minimum.  This includes idling in public areas.  If you need to afk on sim, particularly for an extended time, we ask that you move out of the way if possible.

Death/Consent

Beyond Elpis relies on the reasonable right to life.  Simply stated, your character will likely not be killed if it begs not to be.  There are always other options in roleplay to avoid death.  These can include being enslaved, jailed, losing a limb or body part, etc.  Please see the following breakdown for further explanation.  Note that while these outcomes are suggested, a player retains a right to consent. If this is shown to be abused over time, an admin may step in and decide the outcome of a scenario.

1:1 Combat/Conflict:  In this scenario, unless both players agree, death cannot happen.  If there is a long-term storyline which leads to death, one of the players may seek an admin ruling regarding such.  Usually, this will involve a situation where a player has avoided consequences for their IC actions for a lengthy period and continues to do so or that involving a hired assassin with a considerable story behind it.

Small group encounters:  In these situations a player may be marginally injured or captured, consent is required for death.

Larger group encounters/small factional fights:  There is a chance of grave injury and/or disfigurement.

Main factional events:  Serious chance of death unless medical treatment or resuscitation is sought.  Generally, these will have some story team oversight and be advertised well in advance to advise that participation may lead to character death.

Sim story events:  Varied, dependent on the goal of each event.  Possible consequences will be outlined ahead of time.

Bottom line:  Death may/can and will happen in Beyond Elpis.  However, in most cases, you may be able to mitigate this for your character by begging for your life in which the other party is strongly recommended to offer alternative roleplay.  All discrepancies will be determined by the administration whose ruling will be final.
